BUSINESS MEN'S OBJECTIONS
Tha operations of the Meat Pool Onmmittee are to be followed closely by tha Auckland Chamber of Oommeice, the council of which, when the Meat Export. Control Bill was before the recent hshou of Parliament telegraphed to Mr. Masey protesting against clause 17, which empowers tha Government to guarantee the scheme. The protest was made on tin ground that it gave preferential treatment to a section of the community to the detriment of the remainder of the
people. The secretary of the chamber, Mr. H. C. Tewsley, reported to the council yesterday that he had communicated roth other chambers in regard to the miller, and among the protests sent to the Prima Minister, in consequence, was one from Dunedin to the effect that the measw formed a most dangerous precedent Hid should be Bubject to an annual rerieir hj Parliament. It was unfair to tie taxpayers generally, and some specific ck?» should be provided under clause 11, covering the State guarantee, mi 4* rates ol interest on advances should b« fixed. The chairman, Mr. E. Louisaon, said this was a very important matter and the chamber should watch it carefully. It was decided that the president and vice-president be a sub-committee to keip in touch with the eubjec!,, and shorn! necessity arise, to call a special meeting to deal with it.
