COMPULSORY RESERVES.

THE PRINCIPLE -OPPOSED.

The requirements of the Government in connection with the subdivision of land wero the subject of a report by a committee presented to the Chamber of Commerce yesterday. The report, stated it was required that ut least one-fifth of a proposed subdivision should be transferred to the State as a reserve. This the committee considered unfair, and it urged that if in the public interest it was desirable to reserve an area in a subdivision the Government should take it under the Public Works Act and pay compensation for it. The committee also considered the Land Boards should be the determining authorities respecting all requirement governing subdivisions.
