QUEENSLAND AGENCY.
MR. HUNTER SUPERSEDED.
TARDY NOTIFICATION.
Australian and N.Z. Cablo Awoc-iation. CRecd. 6.30 p.m.) LONDON. Feb. 14.
The Australian and New Zealand Press Association learns that Mr. J. M. Hunter, until lately Agent-General for Queensland, first learned authoritatively that he had been superseded when he visited the Queensland office yesterday. Previously he had derived his information solely from newspaper cablegrams, which reported the selection of Mr. J. H. Fihelly by a Queensland Labour caucus, but did not indicate whether the appointment was to become immediately effective or at the expiration of Mr. Hunter's term. Immediately after Mr. Hunter's unexpected appearance at the agency yesterday the secretary, Mr. P. J. Dillon, cabled to the Queensland Government, which replied that it was appointing Mr. Dillon to act as Agent-General pending the arrival of Mr. Fihelly, whose appointment would date from February 8. Mr. Hunter was officially informed of this to-day.
Mr. Hunter is completely restored to lealth, but he absolutely declined to nake a statement, beyond saying: " I feel very much like my former self." He has decided to take things quietly for the present.
