DEVONPORT BOROUGH.
The Devonport Borough Council mot last evening- Those present wero tho Mayor, Mr H. S- W. King, and Messrs. S. W. Luiford, J. Mays, H. Lmder, E. H. Little, A. V. Fr&or. G. V. Pearce, and C. L. btoven6°The Minister lor Health, the Hon. C. J. Parr wrote acknowledging the council a request for a loan for the erection of a rubbish deaiructor. Ho stated that d wa« for local authorities to arrange their own nuance but if application wa« made to any of tlio Government lend,as departments, he would be pleased to support it. Mr. Little suggested that the permanent appointment of a, res.dent borough engineer should be made, instead of a consulting engineer being employed temporarily. He einlained that sinco the present appointment wnA determined on the position had changed through the council having reeolved to carry out the street improvement works by day labour, instead of bv letting a oontract. lh« matter was referred to the works comm Com'plaintfl of hooliganism in tho vicinity of the wharf, and wanton damage to tree; on the reserve, particularly on Sunday nights, were received. It,was decided to communicate with tho police.
