BRIGHT PICTORIAL SUBJECTS

A splendid range of pictorial subjects is published in to-day's issue of the Auckland Weekly News, topical events of the past week being fully covered. In connection with tho successful aquatio carnival at Cheltenham Beach ; on Saturday a striking panorama is reproduced in addition to other animated sceuee, while some bright snapshots of the garden fete at Takapuna on the same day also make pleasing studies, the whole forming a most picturesque double-pam Deep-sea fishing at Russell, Bay of Islands, is dealt with in a way that gives an idea of the fine sport to be obtained in northern New Zealand waters. The sad drowning accident near Greymonth, when Bix members of a picnio party were lost m a treacherous back current, is touched on by the publication of a view showing the anxious crowd on the beach watching the attempts at rescue. Some interesting scenes from Siara are also reproduced. Following are further pictorial features that should be scanned with attention :— Gannets on the beach near Port Ahuriri, Hawke's Bay: the scene after tho train crash at Bradford, England; welcoming the Prince of Wales to Godhpur, India; Princess Mary visits the home of her fiance, Viscount Lascelles; timber-work-ing at Waitakere, Auckland; sunset on the ice in Holland; winter sports in the Alps in Switzerland; and farming on the west coast of Auckland. There is also a portrait of Mahatma Mohandas K. Ghandi, the head of the Indian "non-co-operators."
