SPIRITED WOOL SALE.

THE NAPIER OFFERING.

NINETY PER CENT. SOLD.

AN ADVANCE IN PEICES.

[n TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.] NAPIER, Monday. Tho upward tendency prevailing in tho wool market during recent weeks was fully maintained at the third wool sale of the season at Napier to-day. Bidding from an attendance of about forty buyers, representative of all sections of the trade, was very spirited throughout, desired sorts bringing forth good competition. The catalogue offered comprised 16,320 bales, but as at previous sales this season tho condition was not up to the usual Hawke's Bay standard. Some of the clips aatained a fair amount of trefoil burr, this being tho case in some good wools frum the flats. This wool was consequently spoiled for American competition. The effect of this trefoil burr even the slightest traco of it, in tho wool, means at least id per lb. depreciation, and some buyers would not take it at all. In Hawke's Bay the appearance of burr is apparently on the increase, and does not augur well for the future, as it is bound to affect prices. At to-day'a sale Continental buyers operated very heavily, and gave good prices for tender and wasty wool, which showed an increase of Id on tho last sale rates. Supor wools, for which America is always a keen competitor, were not offering in great quantity. Prices showed an improvement up to ji Bradford was also very active for wools suited to that market at prices that were also on tho up grade. Tho demand allowed a dis- ; tinctly* improved tono for ordinary, medium, and coarso crossbreds, in which shabby back-country wools also participated. Lambs' wool brought forward a brisk demand, in which the Dominion milk operated freoly in competition with French buyers. Pieces, bellies and lock's wont very woll at improved prices, many lines selling at from 4£d to 6d.
