SUICIDE OF A GIRL.

DROWNED IN RIVER.

[D? TELEGRAPH.—"WN COTtRESPONDKNT.] DARGAVILLE, Monday.

The dead body of a girl named Vera Wells, aged 18 years, was found in the Kaihu River this morning. A man heard a scream about 1 a.m. and made investigations, but was unable to discover the causa Further search was made at daylight, and tho body was found.

At the inquest it was stated that the deceased was employed as a housemaid at an hotel. Her timo was up on Sunday night. Two young men who were in company with the deceased at various times up to 11.30 o'clock on Sunday night doposed to hor being in low spirits, one stating she had suggested "jumping into the tide." A verdict of suicide was returned.
