an official announcement will be made on Mondav defining the exact length that th« Government is prepared to go. Tho raat'.ar will be thrashed out when Parliament, meets in February. The demands of the Egyptian Nationalists have extended sinco the Irish settlement, and they want more than the degree of independence outlined in the report of the Milner Commission. The British Government recognises that no Egyptian Government can take office unless its programme is based on complete independence, and it is neither the practice nor the inclination of the British people to meet such demands with grapeshot. The Observer adds that the Egyptians will gasp with pleasure when they I'ead Monday's announcement, but the principle that Britain must be the paramount foreign Power in dealing with Egypt will be made explicit; also British communications to India, the Far East, and Australia and New Zealand must be safeguarded. It is reported in London that a new committee has been formed in Cairo to carry on the boycott proclaimed by the enpporta.'S of ZaghM Pasha who have since been arrested.
