-ROYAL YACHT SQUADRON,

GENERAL HANDICAP UNFINISHED.

£O'NA WINS ONE-DESIGN RACE. The Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron had a general handicap for first,and second class yachts Bet down for decision on Saturday, and also a race for th'J 14ft. onedesign class. A light north-east wind was blowing when tho races were started, but later in the afternoon tho breew fell away to light airs and calms. The yachts completed one round of the course, but were unable to finish beforov7.ls p.ra;, and the officials declared the race off. In the onedesign event however, three boats managed to finish before sunset. Details are as follows:— Tho entries and handicaps for tM general handicap were Ariki set, Wpangi 10m, Victory 19m, Moana 20m,. Little Jim 29m, Heartsease 29m, Waiono 32m, Lady Wilma 87m, Windward 40m, Matua 60m, Scout Bom. All started ot .2.30 p.m. excopt Matua, Waitangi crossing ]ne me first, closely followed by Scout, Lady Wilma and Victory, with the rest handy except Windward, which was 16m late. Un We beat to the Bastion mark all. worked the southern shore, standing well into Hobson Bay before coming about. Moana ran into socond place shortly after the start toilowed by Victory, which, in the meantime, replaced Lady Wilma and Scout. W,a • tangi was still leading off o::akei Wharf, but when the boats broke tacks Ami assumed the lead, while Moana also replaced Waitangi. Rounding the Bastion mark the order of the leaders was:\Ari«, Moana. Waitangi. Victory. Lady Wilma. On the close haul to the Rangitoto beacon Victory passed both Waitangi and Moana, but when they returned to the harbour again Moana had regained her position, wjliU Waitangi had dropped, further astern. The wind was now very light, and progress on the run up the harbour was slow.
