-, •-— —- . Business was resumed yesterday on the Auckland sharemarbt after the Chratmu vacation, which'commenced on December 23. There was fair inquiry for investment stocks, the prices offered in most instances being slightly below the rates ruling prior to the holidays. Sellers' quotations were equal to pro-vacation rates, consequently not much business was transacted. In Government stocks Soldiertf Loan (bonds) were wanted at £92 7s 6d, sellers £92 10s. War Loan, 1938, inquired for at £85 10s, were quoted at £86. In banks Australasias were inquired for at £10 15s, sellers £11 10s. Then were buyers for National at £5 10s, no eellera offering. The closing quotations for New Zeaiands were, sellors 48s, buyers 46s 6d. In insurances there were offers for New Zeaiands at 27s 6d without response. In gas there i» a sale of Aucklands at 21s, further buyers offering 20s 9d, selkra 21s 3d. In shipping F. and O.'s (deferred stock) were wanted at £290, no sellers quoting. Miscellaneous lines were practically unaltered, a !ale of Wilsons Cement being effected at lis 3d, other buyers offering 14s. In mining Waihis, wanted at 18s 6d, were quoted at 20s. Waihi Grand Junctions were inquired for at 7s 3d, sellers 8s 3d. The following sales took place:'-Auck-land Gas, 21s; Wilsons Cement, 14s 3d.
