MURDER OF YOUNG GIRL.
WAVE OF HORROR CAUSED. CROWD IN LYNCHING MOOD. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (E«cd. 7.20 p.m.) MELBOURNE, Jan. 6. The murder of the 12-year-old girl, Alma Tirschke, whose body was found in a Une off Little Collins Street on Saturday, tas produced a wave of horror. Rumours that three men have been detained caused great crowds to gather in the vicinity of the spot where the body was found. In order to control the angry demonstrations, which continued for hours while the men were under examination, it became necessary to employ a large body of mounted police. A report that one of the men was still inside the building led to attempts to break the cordon. There ' were shouts of " Bring him out. Pull the place down." The demonstrations continued until late at night. The men detained, satisfied the police, and were released. A portion of the clothing believed to belong to the murdered girl has been discovered. It is now ascertained that she was not strangled, but throttled by the powerful fingers of a man.
