Last Thursday Mr. Robert Duon, who came to Fiji from New Zealand 15 or 16 l years ago, was drowned in the Waidini (River on the Tailevu Coast. With others I he was proceeding in a launch from Suva to spend his holidays with a friend, Mr. j Poulton, of Tailevu. About 9.30 p.m. or !so, as the launch was nearing the wharf j Mr. Duon said he wanted a swim and j plunged overboard. He was seen in the | dim light turning back when half-way j across. As the launch had school children on board and the hour was late and ; as no apprehension was felt for Mr. Dixon's j safety as he was a strong swimmer, those in the launch cast off two natives in a punt to pick him up. Later the Fijians reported that as Mr. Dixon neared the bank he disappeared; search parties found \ the body on Saturday morning. j Mr. Dixon was 38 years old and a wellknown contractor. He was unmarried.
