Pigs ..296 42 STATE AND FEDERAL SEATS. A TASMANIAN PROTEST. HOBART. Dec IS. In the Tasmanian Legislative Assembly, Mr. Ogden (Labour) moved that a petition be sent to the King agaihsf the Federal Bill that proposes to prevent State members from being nominatad to Federal seats without resigning, on the 'ground that it contravened section 59 o' the Constitution. The Premier and Leader of, the Opposition endorsed the protest, but deprecated asking the King to interfere in domestic politics, and the motion was lost by 12 votes to 11. . GOVERNMENT'S SUGAR FROPITS. MELBOURNE. Dec. 15 The Federal Government is making £35,000 to £40,000 profit weekly on sugar. The retail prico is still 6d, though the sugar could be sold at 4£d. No reduction is contemplated this year, as the Government is hoping to wipe out the deficit incurred during tho war, when suga;r was imported and sold at a loss to satisfy . local requirements. CHEAPER BREAD IN MELBOURNE. MELBOURNE, Dec. 15 Bakers have reduced the 41b. loaf by 3d, and the price is now 10£ d. TRADE WITH GERMANY.
