SYDNEY CONTRACT CASE.
ALDERMAN ACQUITTED. A. and N-Z. SYDNEY. Dec. 15. Alderman R. D. Bramston has been acquitted on a charge of accepting a bribe as an inducement to favour certain individuals in relation to contracts for supplies of wood blocks to the City Council. When the evidence for the prosecution was finished, counsel for the defence submitted that there was no evidence to go to the jury. He asked the Judge so to direct them. The Judge declined to take the case out of the hands 'ot the jury, but allowed them to retire. They returned a few minutes later with a verdict ,of not guilty. The foreman announced that the element of doubt was so strong that they unanimously favoured giving the accused the benefit of the doubt,
