MOUNT EDEN CARNIVAL. The first carnival 0, fth© Mount „Eden Swimming Club was, held at the Mount Eden baths last evening xn the presence of a. large number of spectators, who thoroughly enjoyed the racing. The various events were keenly contested, and. there were several close- finishes. The principal events were the 60yds inter-club handicap and the 220 yds open handicap. In the short dWance races W. 8. Smith, off 2mm. won after an exciting finish, in Ms. In the 220 yds open, handicap E. Bradley. OS 6s, defeated E. V. Cunnold, who was on scratch, in the good time of 2m 53 2-Bs. The ladies' races were also closely contested, and Miss Fernandez put up a good performance in the final of the 50yds handicap which she won off 16s in 43 3-ss. The following were the results:— • . .
