WAIWERA.
OPENING OF NEW BOWLING GREEN
Bowling as a pastime is becoming increasingly popular among Aucklanders. The pleasure derived from the game is greatly enhanced if the green is in firstclass order, and if it is situated amid restful surroundings. One of the most idyllic spots for a green has been prepared at Waiwera through the enorgy and enterprise of Mr. T. Jephcoate, proprietor of the Waiwera Hotel, and the official opening of the green will take place tomorrow afternoon. Those who know Waiwera will instantly recall to mind the lovely situation of the bay, the beauty of its scenery, and the shelter of its surrounding hills. Particularly at this time, when the pohutiikawa is to full bloom, the bay presents a never-to-be-forgotten picture and to those whom the call _of the sea makes a strong appeal, no seaside resort can give such a satisfaction as Waiwera. The bowling green has been prelared by Mr. Jephcoate in the most careful manner. The soil has been carefully refined, and a great playing surface has been secured, so that the green is fit to rank with the best. It is well sheltered, and the game can be enjoyed to the full under such unrivalled conditions. Mr. Jephcoate has sent out invitationß to mem> bers of the leading Auckland bowling clubs, and given fine weather Saturday will be a memorable day at Waiwera, The boat will leave Auckland at 9 a.m. and commence the return journey at 6.30 p.m. For those who care to stay until Tuesday there is excellent hotel accommodation at Waiwera.
