CHRISTMAS APPEALS.
■Annie Gordon, adjutant Salvation Afrmy, writes appealing on behalf of ths large circle of poor and needy \h)k. :Sh« says :• I and my helpers visit many .sad homes, arid some very distressing : ;casefc of poverty and' sorrow come undetfj my cam continually. »/This Christmas time, we lava arranged to give a Christmas parcel, containing provisions for a,good dinner for a family of five, to 100' families, and there are still many more that I conld give the same gift t6._ By careful buying and lov-ing-labour given, us I am able to make donations go a long way. I reckon for 5a or 6s to bo able to give a parcel such as I have mentioned. All donations should be sent care Major Gunn, Salvation Army Headquarters, H.B. Buildings, Queen Street, Auckland. F. M. Girdler, lady superintendent of ', the St. Mary's Homes, Otahuhu, writes,: —The children here are too small to tako any part in the demonstrations which brings their need before the public at this time, but we are making an effort to give them a happy day with a Christmas tree, with a festival tea and a gift o| clothing for every inmate of the homes. I hope that frier,ds who have so kindly helped St Mary's Homes in -former years will come forward again and help in the special effort that is being made to bring the homes to a high standard of efficiency.
