A TEACHER'S SALARY.

BOARD IN A QUANDARY.

SUM OF £80 TO BE FOUND. Tfco problem of how to find £80 to pay a physical culture mistress, who had been appointed a full-time teacher, was a matter that gave the Technical College board of managers a con-iderable amount of thought yesterday. The case was in some respects similar to that experienced by the Grammar Schools' board of governors recently, when the department refused to pay the salary of a lady teacher. The director, Mr. George George, said that the lady v in question had been appointed, a full-time teacher pending the arrival in Auckland of the superintendent of technical education, whom it was intended to consult in the matter. His arrival, however, was delayed, and he then declined to permit the lady to be employed other than as a half'time teacher. The board consequently had to make goad the balance of her salary as a full time teacher to the extent of £80. Several members expressed the opinion that tfne teacher should have been permitted to include in her time tho Wednesday afternoons she had spent in organ ising the girls for the sports held recently. Library time had also been discontinued. Mr. J, A. C. Allum suggested that a deputation wait upon the Minister for Education on his next visit to Auckland, and seek an advantageous agreement upon the matter. It was quite possible that favourable consideration might be given, said MP. Allum, to objections that the Minister was bound to conform to his restitutions. " I have had some dealings with Ministers," he added. The suggestion was agreed to.
