LOSS OF A POST OFFICE.
i> — KARANGAHAKE'S POSITION. DECLINE IN BUSINESS.; . [BT TELEGRAPH—SPECIAL REPOBTEB.] WELLINGTON, Wednesday. The Postmaster-General was recently', asked by Mr. H. Poland (Ohinemuri) whether he would reconsider the decision arrived at by his department to remove ■-.._ the post office building from Kdranganake and make further inquiries into the necer- . sity for such post office. Mr. Pola™ ;. added that he was informed 120 family .. lived in the Karangahako district, and used the post office. This number was likely to increase rather than diminish. The Hon. J. G. Coates replied that the volume of business transacted at Kara- . j ; ngahake had shown a steady decline over a number of years, and was now insufficient to warrant the retention of a permanent staff or a departmental building. The full postal and telegraph facilities ; would continue tc be provided by a non- . permanent postmaster, and the Kar»" £% ngahake post office building would » y made available for at whic* place it was urgently required.
