ORPHANAGES CAMPAIGN.
PRACTICAL CHRISTIANITY. COMMENDED BY CHURCHES. A strong plea for tho support of the public in the campaign to raise £25,000 for the benefit of tho orphan homes in the Auckland district was made last evening at the meeting of the Council of Christian Congregations. Mr. H. P. Caughey stated that through lack of accommodation children" were being refused admission to the various orphanages in the Auckland district. If the council was to be of permanent and vital strength it must prove an example, of Christian service. Its energies could not be directed in a better cause than providing for destitute and fatherless children. He moved that' the council cordially commend > the 'scheme as a most worthy effort in practical Christian citizenship, pledges its utmost support to the appeal, and earnestly commend ft \to tho generosity of the public. Mr. C. F. Bennett, wfao seconded the motion, said it was a splendid cause which might, bring the union of churches} so much desired, perceptibly nearer. (Applause.) Bishop Averill said the appeal was a practical outcome of the formation of the Council of Christian Congregations. Tho homes ..had been of tremendous help durthe war and during the epidemic. He hoped another epidemic might not' occur, but if it did so at present there was no accommodation in the orphanages for further inmates. In conclusion, a stirring appeal to all, present to assist in;'making tho campaign the success .it deserved to* be. ; .'/ ■. (The motion was carried unanimously
