FARMERS' CO-OPERATION.
CANADA AND UNITED STATES. Among the through passengers to Australia by the Niagara which left on Saturday for Sydney, was Mr. H. W. Potts, formerly principal of the Hawkesbury Agricultural College, but now an active director of the Lindley Walker Co-opera-tive Wheat Company, o9 Sydney. Mr. Potts 'nas just returned from an extensive trip through the principal corn exchanges ,in Canada, the. United States, England; Belgium, Holland, Denmark, and Sweden. He speaks of the many signs which point to the fact _ that the co-operative principle is' becoming a very live ques- ' tion, particularly ui Canada and the United States, where the farmers are combining. Mr. Potts said he had observed thai the farmers. In these countries were coming to See the' absolute necessity of combining to protect/their mark-lets, especially since the great fall in the price of wheat and-other grains. Wheat had fallen, in' Canada and the < United States' to "about half the prices rul- ■ ing at this time, last.year, a similar de preciation being shown in respect to other ; grains. This, he considered, was fargely * due to the fact that the purchasing power '• of the masses of people in Europe had been sadly lessened as" a result of the war. '' This was a-.new factor deciding the conditions which determine the law of supply and demand. ) .•■ ;
