LABOUR LIBEL SUIT.

COURT AWARDS £2000. MR. THOMAS', POSITION. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Seed. 5 pan.) LONDON, Dec. 3. Mr. J. H. Thomas, M.P., the railway leader, has been awarded £2000 in his action for libel against the Labour Press, Ltd., and the editor and publisher of the newspaper Comnrunist. No evidence was called for the defence. Mr. Justice Darling, in summing up, said the defendants meant to drive out Mr. Thomas, which would mean his downright ruin. Eeferring to the miners' dispute, he said at one time such acts were illegal. They had seen how thin was the partition dividing trade union disputes from disputes which became in a moment bloody revolution. Mr. Thomas' position was ambiguous and difficult. He was acting with men who were avowed revolutionary Communists. Mr. Thomas had showed that he did not associate himself wfth their objects.
