About 7 o'clock on Tuesday evening one of the New Zealand Aero "Transport ' Company's aeroplanes came to the ground as the result of sudden engine trouole at , a spot about two miles from Kakipuika railway siding, near Balclutha. When about 1500 ft. up the machine began to give trouble, and it was decided to effect a landing, notwithstanding the uneven nature of the country. When the machine reached the ground tug engine had stopped, but the aeroplane travelled on under its own moment.im, (he slippery nature of the ground increasing rather than retarding the pace until it came to a stop right across a creek at the foot of a gully. The occupants, who had a miraculous escape, which was aided considerably by /thqiv own presence of mind, were only slightly cut about the face and back, and after medical attention were about to carry out the dismantling of the machine which was broken and bent in places' though the damage i s not of a. serious ■ nature.
