PERSONAL ITEMS.
Mr. H. Moss and Mr. A. V. Shorter of Wellington, are at the Grand Hotel ' Mr. J. H. Hides, of Thos. Hubbnck and Son, Ltd., Loudon, has arrived from Melbourne, and is staying at tho Grand Hotel. Mr. J. A. Young, M.P. for Waikato, stated yesterday that in all probability he will contest tho new Hamilton seat at the next general election, Brigadier-General D. J. McGavin director-general of medical sen-ices or! rived in Auckland yesterday morning. Ha is staying at the Grand Hotel. Tho Hon. P. J. Nerheny, M.L.0., is still laid aside by illness. The City Council, on the motion of the Mayor,"Mr. J. 11. Gunson, decided to forward to him a letter of sympathy. The Rev. Bower Black, of Dargaville has received a call from the Presbyterian congregation at Carterton. The Wairarapa Presbytery has sustained the call, which is to be forwarded to the- Auckland Presbytery.
Mr. W. Corin, chief electrical engineer to tho New South Wales Government who is visiting New Zealand, has been shown over the Lake Monowai scheme. Beforo returning to Australia he will also inspect the Lake Coleridge scheme. Mr. V. G. Day, S.M., president of the Assessment Court, is assisting at the Magistrate's Court, Christchurch, until the New Year. The two permanent magistrates. Mr. S. E. McCarthy and Mr. Wyvem Wilson, have been unable to copo with all the city and country work and consequently a considerable amount of arrears has accumulated.
