RAILWAYMAN RETIRED.
PRESENTS FROM COMRADES.
The popularity of Mr. E. J. H. O'Keefe, who recently retired from the position of coaching foreman at Auckland after' 42 years' service in the Railway Department, was shown by the enthusiasm that prevailed at a valedictory function held in hi* honour at the Chamber of Commerce on Saturday evening. The hall was crowded, members and ex-member*
of practically every branch of gsjjsifway service oeing present, -wMla iany business men and personal friends j& ■attended. Mr. G. Falla, late sta&nmaster at Auckland, who presided, presented the guest with an illuminated sidress and a wallet containing banknotes, and, for Mrs. O'Keefe, a gold wrist|et watch. He referred to Mr. O'Keefe as a man of sterling worth, who had endeared himself to all with whom, he came in contact, and his remarks were endorsed by Mr. W. Harding, the present stationmaster, Mr. M. J. Mack, general secretary to the Amalgamated Society of Bailway Servants, who had come from Wellington especially to attend the function, and many other railway men. Mr. H. Scott Colville and Mr. J. Farrell, on behalf of theatrical companies using the railways, paid tributes to the courtlont assistance always received from Mir. O'Keefe.
