REGISTRATION AND LICENSE.

The Government's prononnls in regard to motor vehicles are embodied in a Bill introduced in the House of Eepresentatives to-day. The penalty for using an unregistered or unlicensed motor vehicle is £20 for every day on which the vehicle is used. The annual fee for registration of a private motor-car is fixed at £1, for a motorcycle ss, and for any other motor vehicle IDs. Notice of change of ownership must be given. Provisions as to registration and licenses are not to apply in certain cases to the motor vehicles of manufacturers and dealers. There are provisions for the licensing of drivers and motor vehicles and for the endorsement of licenses. In the case of conviction for offences, the Court may declare the forfeiture of licenses. There are provisions for the inspection of motor vehicles. Local authorities are to erect signposts denoting limits of speed. The penalty for reckless or negligent driving is £100. The fees payable for annual licenses are : Motor coach or motor omnibus, £10; trade motor, £7; private motor-car, £S; motor-cycle, £1; traction engine, £10; other motor vehicles, £3. The following vehicles are exempted:— Motor vehicles owned by a municipal corporation, town board, county council, road board, drainage board, river board, education board, harbour board, or fire board and used exclusively for general or local public purposes; ambulance vehicles and motor vehicles ordered by and used exclusively for the purposes of any authority of a public nature denned as exempt by regulations under the Act.
