OBITUARY.

MR. JOHN SCOTT.

VETERAN HERALD EMPLOYEE-, The death occurred yesterday morning, at his residence, New North Read, Glenmore, of Mr. John Scott, far many yea* foreman stereotyper in the employ of Messrs. Wilson and Horton. His age was 64 this month, ard his connection ■ with the ffrouTJ* dated back for 47 years' - Born in Belfast in 1857, Mr. Scott eaffie out to New Zealand with his mother (then a widow) in 1874, when he was 17 years old, making the voyage ii the ship Queen of Nations. He commenced work in the old Heeald building on the day after his arrival here as machinist, and for many years he daily ran off the papers on the Wharfdale Minting machine then in use. On the advent cf the rotary machine, with its accompanying steieotype plant, Mr. Scott was given the option of remaining in the position of machinist or of becoming assistant stereotyper. He elected to take the latter position, and some years later was promoted to" the foremanship of that department, retaining it up to a few weeks ago, when he retired on pension. Mr. Scott was for many years a prominent member of the Rocky Nook Bowling Club, of which, he Won the championship on one occasion, and he also woa several oQ h* competitions. He was well known and nighly respected in bowling circles, and for a lengthy period represented his club at annual tournaments at Rotorua and other centres, as far South as Wellington." His late wife pre deceased him only a few weeks ago. Mr. Scott leaves three sons, two married daughters, Mesdames T. Ward and C. Morris, and four single daughters, besides five grandchildren. His brother, Mr. William Scott, of Kingslond, and his only sister, Mrs. T. K. Williams, of Dominion Road, also survive.- him. The funeral will take place at Purewa cemetery this morning, leaving the late residence of the deceased at 11.30.
