STOCKS ON AUGUST 31.

A statement has been made by the Imperial Government Supplies Department that the Government subsidy or equalisation payment of 2d per lb. does not cover all butter manufactured to August 31, but will be paid only on butter sold and delivered to retailers for household consumption up to August 31, provided such sales are not in excess of normal daily sales to such retailers. Stock was taken of all butter on hand at factories, cool stores, and distributing houses on ths evening of August 31, and) all such butter is excluded from equalisation payments. On any butter sold at prices exceeding the fixed maximum prices equalisatnn payment is reduced by the amount oi such excess price*
