DEMENTED WOMAN.

RESCUE BY FIRE BRIGADE.

A PLUCKY CONSTABLE.

A woman, who bad previously been detained in the asylum, was recently admitted to the Orange Hospital, New South Wales. She was in a .demented frame of mind, and was under restraint. While being attended to by Dr. Watson in a ward on the first floor the woman sprang from the bed and made for the window, which she was scrambling through when Constable Rose, who was near by, ran across the ward. He reached the window just in time to seize her by one of her hands as she made an attempt to jump to the ground. The const-able hung to the woman's hand with great tenacity, while Dr. Watson ran for help. The woman was suspended in midair. No ladders were available from which the woman could be reached, and it appeared as if the constable would have to forego his hold and let the woman fall to the ground. In order to relieve the strain a sheet was passed under her arms. The Fire Brigade was sent, for and arrived on tie scene in remarkably quick time, bringing the ladders with them. These were placed in position, and the woman was rescued from her perilous plight. She was subsequently brought before the Court, and ordered to be detained in &« asylnm,
