SURPLUS BRITISH WOMEN.
CENSUS REVEALS 2,000,000. GRAVE SOCIAL PROBLEM. (Received 11.30 p.m.) United Service. LONDON, July 25. The census has disclosed 2,000,000 surplus women in Britain. Sociologists and prominent public workers and church dignitaries are all grappling with the problem involved. Professor Patrick Geddes considers that unless the situation is tackled in time the nation will be faced with social debasement worse by far than any previous social disaster. Miss Barker, director of the Women's Training for Employment Committee, suggests that training for a full independent life is the only remedy.
