DELEGATES FROM AUCKLAND.

PROGRAMME FOR THE TRIP.

INSPECTION OF THE SITE.

A visit is to be paid to Arapuni on Friday by delegates from the Auckland Chamber of Commerce, City Council, and various other local bodies, for the purpose of inspecting the proposed site for the hydro-electric scheme which all concerned

are interested in having speeded up. Representatives of the leading towns in Taranaki have been invited to join the delegation.

The Auckland delegates will leave for Frankton by the Main Trunk express tomorrow evening. On Friday the delegation will leave Frankton by the 7.10 a.m. train for Putaruru, arriving there at 11 a.m. Thence they will be conveyed direct to the site by motor-car, and on arrival there luncheon will be served* followed by addresses, which will be limited to three minutes each. Mr. E. J. Darby, president of the Pukeatua Development League, will speak. Mr. F. F. Hockly, M.P.. will welcome the delegates to his political territory. Mr. C. Allcorn, chairman of the Putaruru Development Board, will speak of the immense possibilities in the dairying development of the area surrounding the proposed Arapuni Lake. Mr. A. G. Lunn, president of the Auckland Chamber' of Commerce, will reply on behalf of the Auckland visitors. Mr. A. J. Healy, chairman of the Pukeatua Development Board, will describe the scheme from the point of view of a new arrival to the Dominion. Messrs. J. A Young and R. F. Bollard, M.P.'s, and representatives of the local bodies and power boards of Cambridge, Te Awamutu, and Hamilton, will then be called upon. Mr. Lush, engineer in- charge of tie investigation works at Arapuni, will describe the principles underlying the scheme. The visitors, in groups of 20 or so, will be taken down /the Gorge to inspect the investigation works, and to a point where the old riverbed of the Waikato and the power-house site can be seen. The party will be* conveyed back to Putaruru at 3.30 p.m. to the Town Hall, where the people of Putaruru are providing the evening meal. This will be followed by a lecture illustrated by lantern slides, of the Arapuni scheme by Mr. Lush.

The New Lynn Town Board at its meeting on Monday evening, resolved that while it was not feasible to send delegates to Arapuni, the board heartily supported the principle of hastening the electric scheme, and would do all in its power to further the efforts made in that direction.
