Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Pettet came to town for the races, and were staying with Miss Kathleen Holmes, St. Stephen's Avenue, ParnelL Mrs. Culling and the Misses Culling went to Wellington at the end of the week, where they joined their ship for England.. Miss Mabel Hopkins accompanied them. Miss Amy Land, of Mount Eden, left New Zealand last week by the Remuera, en route for England, whefe she will spend some months visiting relatives and friends. The musical circle of the Auckland Women's Club met on Mondav eveninc Mrs Edgar was in the chair "in th e absence of the convener, Mrs. Sutherland. An interesting musical programme was much enjoyed. The At Home at the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron rooms to-morrow evening, to which members, of the fair sex have been invited, promises to be well patronised. Their Excellencies Lord and Lady Jellicoe are to be present at* the function, _ when prizes won during the season will be presented. Captain the Hon. N. J. Reed and Mrs. Reed (nee Miss Dorothy Coleman, of Auckland and Hamilton) arrived in Wellington by the lonic last week from Ensland. They have been the guests of Lord and Lady Manners, Avon Tyrol, for some months. Captain and Mrs. Reed have now returned to their home, Stratherna Estate, North Canterbury. The ladies' committee of the Society of Arts Jubilee Exhibition has organised a series of afternoon teas, which are being given during the exhibition on Saturday and Wednesday afternoons. The hostesses in charge of arrangements are Mrs Louisson, Mrs. Vaile, Mrs. F. J. Rayner, Mrs. Partridge, Mrs. Hodgson, Mrs. T W. Leys, Mrs. J. H. Upton; Mrs- Kent, Mrs. Oliphant, Mrs. Nathan, and Mrs. McGregor. •-•. Miss Dorothea Spinney was entertained by the dramatic circle of the Women's X Club on Wednesday afternoon last. Mrs. Forsyth, convenor of the circle, and Mrs. W. R. Wilson, president of the club, welcomed th c distinguished visitor to the lounge, where afternoon tea was served. Among those present were Mrs. H Wilson, Mrs. McCallum, Mrs. Goldie <2) Miss H. Jones, Misses Wallace (2), Miss Stevenson. ~ , An extraordinary Meeting of the Auckland Women's Club took place on Wednesday evening last, when joint recommendations of the-special committee and executive were unanimonsly accepted. To controvert a rumour that seemed to have " gained ground,.
