HIGHER WORKING EXPENSES DiOEEASE m PASSENGERS. [BT TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.] WELLINGTON, Tuesday.
The upward trend of working expenses is again emphasised in the City Trasrwayi Department's figures for the first inocth: of the current financial year. The revence was £29,848/ an increase of £8725 com-: pared with April of last year, and the working- expenses were £24,341, an increase of £7553. Capital charges, £4570, showed an increase, of £508, and the credit balance at the end of the month: .was £852, compared with £192 at tha end of April, 1920. The percentage of working expenses to revenue was 81 (79 a year ago), .while the revenue per car mile was 29.34 d, an increase of 6.89 cL Perhaps the most satisfactory feasors of fee return is that it shows an increase of 174,894 in the number of passengers carried, i On the other hand the number of car miles run increased by 18,361. The power supply and teack lighting accounts for the month show a small credit of £27. compared /with a debit of' £75 for this same month last year.
