Kewpie was first away and was closely followed by Idler, Resolute, and Nyria, with the rest of the boats handy. Nyria quickly drew away from her opponents and after standing on the port tack for a few minutes she threw round- on to starboard. Idler, Edna, Kewpie, and Resolute followed shortly afterwards, Meteor and several others standing well on the port tack before coming round. Nyria, which was well handled by V. Lidgard, proved too good for her opponents, rounding the Bayswater mark well in front of Iron Duke which had meanwhile worked into second position. The order of the rest of the boats rounding this mark was Idler, Edna, Meteor, Kewpie, Ola HI., Resolute, and Betty. Meteor passed Edna on the lead up the harbour, but on the return journey Edna regained her position, while Meteor also had to give place to Ola HI. on the reach to the finishing mark.
