ATHLETICS.

KING'S COLLEGE ROAD RACE. The annual road race in connection with King's College was held on Friday. The course was from the old stono church on the St. Heliers Bay Road, down the Kohimarama Road, across Orakoi, along Beach Road to Portland Road, and along Portland Road to the echoolgrounds, a distance of about five miles. There were 200 starters, and the winner was Hadley, who started from the limit mark. 10m, and led all the way. Sydall and Pees were second and third. Barclay, who started from scratch, finished thirteenth, and put up the fastest time, 29m 245, which is lm 4s behind the school record, held by Talbot. Among the senior cup boys Stewart was first, Kingston second, and Hope third. The points, added to those gained at the annual sports, gives Hope the cup. Of the junior competitors Chambers was first, Coleman second, and Massey third. The finishing times of the first 12 boys Were:—Hadley iii., 35m 475: Sydall 1., 33m ,68s; Pees i., 36mTucker, 32m 255; Stewart ii.. 36m 40s; Keil 35m 325; Whitcombe. 33m 50s; Mitchell iii.l 35m 555: Walker, 36m ss: McNair 32m 8s; Fraser iii., 31m 8s; Millikon, 31m 355.

SPORTS AT AVON DALE. The sports meeting arranged by the New Lynn Queen Carnival Committee at the Avondale racecourse on Saturday afternoon, for the purpose of raising funds for the itnj provement of the New Lynn school Sground, wa s a great success- About 1500 spectators assembled and were provided with an excellent programme of cycling, running, highland dancing, and football. The Hon. Geo. Fowlds opened the carnival, and expressed appreciation of the efforts that were being made to beautify the school grounds. Results.— Ten Mile Motor Cycle Race.—A. J. Boycroft (3i Triumph), 1655. 1; H. V. McCready (7-9 Harley), 85s, 2; Souter (HarleyDavidson). 30s, 3. Won by 20 yards, a foot separating the other placed menFifteen Mile Motor Cycle Race.—Whitehead (scratch). 1; Souter (scratch),. 2; McCroady dm 15s), 3. Won by half a wheel. Time, 15m 17 2-ss. Amateur Cycle Races.—One mile:' S Hamon. scratch. 1: H. Pelham. 30yds, 2: G. Heron, 80yds. 3. Half a length separated the first and second placed men. Time, 3m 3 4-ss. Two miles: S. Hamon, scratch 1; H, Pelham, 80yd8» 2: C. Freeth, 190 yds, 3. Won by a length. Time, 6m 4 l-6s. 120 Yds Handicap.—Wren, Byds, 1- A Wilson, 4yd«, 3; C. Kellet. 3yds, 3.. A basket ball match for girls, which was keenly contested, was won by the New L<nn Old Girls.
