MR. MASSEY IN CANADA.
TRADE RECIPROCITY.
NAVAL DEFENCE OF PACIFIC. A. and N.Z. VANCOUVER. May 6.
Mr. W. F. Massey, Prime Minister of New Zealand, arrived here on Thursday by the Niagara, on his way to the Imperial Conference. In an interview he said he was willing to enact trade reciprocity with Canada. He declared that the British Dominions bordering the Pacific must strenthen their naval defence.
Commenting on the Anglo-Japanese agreement, Mr. Massey said he could see no objection to its renewal, so long as the Dominions were given the right to choose their own citizens.
Any attempt to relieve New Zealand of the mandate in the Pacific Isles or to change the Samoan policy would be intolerable.
