EMPIRE'S WAR STRENGTH.
ENLISTMENTS TOTAL 9,500,000.
OVER 3,266,000 CASUALTIES. Keuter. LONDON, May 6. An official return shows that 9,500,000 were enlisted in the British Army in war time. The total casualties were 3,266,362. Details are given as follows: — British Isles.—Enlistments, 6.211,427; deaths, 743,702; wounded, 1,693,262; prisoners, 176,305. Canada.—Enlistments, 683.107; deaths, 56.625; wounded, 149,732; prisoners, 3754. Australia. — Enlistments, 413,453: deaths, 59,330; wounded, 152,172; prison ers, 4084. New Zealand.—Enlistments, 227,125; deaths. 16,136; wounded, 40,729; prisoners, 502. The statement issued by the New Zealand Government regarding the Dominion forces, shows that the total called up for foreign and home service from the cutbreak of the war to November 12. 1918,, was 124,411, the number ballotted under the Military Service Act but not called up for service being 102,914, .a ti.-t.al of 227,125. The number called up in the ballots was 135,184, of whom 32.270 were sent, to cajnp, and 6732 were under orders to proceed to camp m the dale of the armistice.
