SHOP ASSISTANTS' CLAIMS.
CHRISTCHURCH SUGGESTION. [DT TELEGRAM— PRESS ASSOCIATION] CHRISTCHURCH. Saturday A three days' sitting of a conciliation council m connection with the retail shop assistants dispute concluded to-day with only a partial settlement of the matters at issue, important questions as to wages and hours being left outstanding. The council unanimously decided that it was advisable to hold a Dominion conciliation council to discuss questions of wages and hours, and it was suggested that such a conference should be held in Christchurch on June 1. In view of the fact that Mr ilagger, conciliation commissioner, presided over the sittings just completed, and heard all ihe arguments from both sides it is proposed that he should preside at the Dominion conference. The other three centres are to be communicated with to ascertain if they will fall in with tho proposal.
