ELLERSLIE TRAINING NOTES.

SATURDAYS WORK.

A heavy fog enveloped the Ellerslie course in the early part of Saturday, and it was after eight o'clock before the atmosphere cleared. The various tracks were in capital order, and some interesting work was witnessed.

Jaffna opened the work on No. 3 grass by compassing five iurlonga in lm ss. Miss Norval ran seven furlongs with a good weight in the saddle in lm 37 4-5. Otara, who wa3 fighting hard for his head, compassed a circuit of the tan. Pogado, who car. commence very fast, ran five furlongs in good style in lm 4s. .Arch Margo and Comedy Prince worked nicely. ar»d Lovehght compassed a circuit of tho grass in lm 45 3-ss. Broadsword, who is trained by K. Eeaton. pleased the onlookers by the way he rattled over six furlongs. . Prince Carl, who looks well, ran a merry six furlouga with a companion in lm 18s, and finished nicely. Tresor and Commission ran six furlongs, the former, who had the best of the weights, finishing in front. Irish Knight and Pendoon were companions in a circuit of the grass in which the first-named showed to most advantage. Pepin defeated Lady Potoa over six furlongs in the moderate time of lm 225. Kauri King, who carries a well-trained appearance, moved attractively in a circuit oi the tan. Grand Canyon, Whitehall, and another ran five furlongs in lm 7s. Whitehall was tailed off a long way behind his companions. Quinoro galloped five furlongs, getting over the last tour in 51 2-ss. Goldplane and Kina put, a grass circuit past, the former showing to most advantage. Swastiska, who carries the appearance of having done a lot of sound work, was bustled over a round of the grass. Others responsible for useful work were Thrace, Berschies, Sir Buon, Pine Arch, Esplanade. Crowhurst, Olonmel, Rekatoa, Brightlight, Scrap o' Paper, Impudence, Killard, May Bruce. Lady Bruce, Glen Canny and Kip (a hunter).

THE SCHOOLING WORK. The hurdles were in position on the. course proper, which waa available for schooling. Kinkora and Ah Fu were the first to school and they negotiated four flights of hurdles in good style, with Kinkora in front. Guerre a Mort. who is in capital condition jumped five hurdles at racing pace, and though at times he was jumping just a bit high his display was characterised with much dash. Isingarch, Brury Lass, Multiplane and Silverton set out in company for a school over the hurdles. The first flight were negotiated safely, but at the second Multiplane and Silverton fell, and Isingarch and Drury Lass were left to finish the course together. Hokomai, Totara Jack, and Lombardy, starting at the sod wall, cleared the water jump, stone wall, brush fence, and went over the hill, finishing up over the sod wall, double hurdles, and stone wall. The trio all jumped well and they finished strongly. Gervagh, a hunter, was schooled over the sod wall, double, and etone wall by S. Henderson, and acquitted himself very creditably. Koura, Gladwin, National Freedom, Mestee, Guardian, Peer Rosa* and Mollyroon jumped off together at the sod wall, and oame at the water jump at a. racing pace, in negotiating which Molly Toon fell. Oakleigh joined in at the brush fence, near the seven furlongs post, and at a solid pace the sextette rattled up the back stretch to the hill. The post and rail fences were negotiated in safety, and all went well until the first fence of the double came to be negotiated, at which obstacle Peer Rosa fell heavily. H. Haigh, the rider of Mofiyroon, and J. Roach who had the mount of Peer Rosa, were both severely injured when their respective mounts fell. Arthur Julian has gone to Hawera with Slowcoach and Bother.
