INCOME TAX IMPOSED.
BUSINESS PROFITS DUTY. A. Mid N.Z. SUVA. April 13. The Legislative Council this morning I passed an ordinance imposing an income : tax of a shilling in the pound on incomes exceeding £500 in the case of bachelors, < and exceeding £1000 in the case of others, i with a surtax of a shilling in the pound ! for each £5000 on incomes exceeding £5000, the maximum being six shillings, in the pound on incomes exceeding £25,000. Absentees will pay a tax of a j shilling in the pound on incomes up to j £1000, the tax thence rising by steps to I seven shillings in the pourid on incomes I exceeding £25,000. _ Shipping companies wUI pay sixpence ' in the pound on the earnings of outward ; business, insurance companies sixpence j in the pound on incomes exceeding I £1000, and business houses a profit tax ; of 20 per cent, on profits exceeding 15 per i cent, of the capital.
