BREACHES OF BY-LAWS.
SEVERAL MOTORISTS FINED.
Proceedings in the Police Court yesterday, apart from the by-law prosecutions were shorter than usual, the majority of cases being remanded. The defendants in the by-law cases were practically _ all motorists, mo st of the charges arising from offences alleged to have been committed on New North Road on March 5, the day of the motorcar races at Muriwai Beach. Several substantial fines were imposed. A taxi-driver Alfred White (Mr. Fraer). who admitted having driven a car in Broadway, Newmarket, in a dangerous manner, was fined £5, this being his second conviction for this class of offence. Roy Spinley was also fined £5 for driving a car j n New North Road at an excessive speed John Whiteside (Mr. Matthews) was fined £3, and Dr. H. A. Chatfield (Mr. Inderi and Dr. E. H. B. Milsom £2 each for dangerous driving m New North Road J. Batty was fined £1 for driving a motorl lorry, in,Qneeh Street after sunset without a light, Joseph Gordon Smith was fined a similar amount for driving a motor-cycl* over a safety zone.
