No authoritative statement can bo obtained, but, the matter is being freely discussed by farmers and others interested. A scheme is undo? consideration, it is said, whereby, the purchase can be effected. If it is carried into operation the Government will take over all the" surplus of tho new wheat crop at ruling rates, which previously have been fixed at from 7s 6d to Ss per bushel, with a monthly increase of Jd per bushel from , May 1 next. Tho idea of the.purchase is to relieve farmers of the surplus of which they have been unable to clear themselves, and to assist them financially. It is submitted that the present stringency • o'n commercial circles should be relieved if the purchase is carried out.
