DROWNING ACCIDENT.
CAPSIZE OF A DINGHY. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] J THAMES, Tuesday. Information was received this morning that a young man named Charles Kendall, who was in the employ of the Lands Department at Hauraki Plains, had been drowned in the Piako River between Pipir.oa and Hopai. The work of dragging the river for the body was carried out until dark, but without success. It appears that the deceased, with a companion named Mcintosh, was proceeding down the Piako River in a small dinghy, and tried to board a punt which was being towed down the river by a launch. In doing so the dinghy collided with the punt and capsized, throwing both men into the water. Mcintosh succeeded in getting QUt on to the punt, but Kendall sank at once, and was not t again seen. The deceased was a single man, and had been in the employ of the Lands Department for some years. He was well known in the district, having previously been engaged in farming.
