NATIVE SCHOOL SYSTEM.

• GOOD WORK IN THE NORTH. [BY TELEGRAPH, — SPECIAL REPORTER.] WHANGAgEI, Saturday. One of the points of interest to the I members of the Kauri Gum Commission in their journeyings in the Far North was represented in the glimpses they gained into the working of the native school system. Three excellently managed schools of this class were met with in the course of the trip—the Pukepoto school, near Kaitaia, conducted by Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Clarke, the Ahipara school, by Mr. and Mrs. Williams, and the Te Hapua school, Parengarenga, by Mr. and Mrs. Vine. Class singing is a prominent feature of the work of these institutions, and at both Pukepoto and Te Hapua the visitors were treated to some beautifully rendered vocal music, coupled with hakas of welcome.
