The Kokumin Shimbun « says that if Japan offers an inch, the United States will try to take a yard, j Japan's spirit of compromise will serve j only to stiffen the American attitude on the mandate question The Nichi Nichi ' Shimbun says that the American attitude . cannot but impress the Japanese as a! challenge by a country which is foremost '• in attacking the Japanese for being j militaristic. j A meeting of business men decided to I cable to Mr. W. G. Harding and Mr. j Borah, urging them to use their in- I fiuence in favour of disarmament. The ( meeting also decided to request the Japanese Diet to apply part of the military | and naval appropriations for purposes of | ■ education and social improvement, The j newspapers are discussing disarmament, and declare that the Japanese people j desire it. j ================ j
