At a well-attended meeting of fai-mers cn Saturday, it was decid-ed to initiate a movement to expand the Farmers' Union in (he district by holding meetings in sill the surrounding centres, with a view to branches of the, union, and later setting up a subprovincial union, w:th headquarters in Tauranga. A committee was appointed to initiate and cany out the campaign. A communication was l'-id !. m the provincial secretary of the iiiiio) , stating that he had received a i '.mniun.cation from Mr. H. A. Goudie, • onservator of forests at Whakarewarewa, Hating that officers of his department are arranging to vi-.it, various districts, in fsrder to meet and advise farmers and '.thers <-.n tree-planting generally. It is hope<3 bv this method to induce, many farmers to plant trees for the supply of timber, fencing material, etc.
