GOVERNMENT PURCHASES. CONSOLIDATION OF INTERESTS. [BY TELEGBAPH. SPECIAL BEPORTEE.] WHAKATASTE, Wednesday. _. With reference to the 400,000 acres purchased by the State in the Urewera country, a largs assembly of natives at Ruatoki to-morrow -will represent to the visiting members of Parliament that the time has arrived when the Government should consolidate its purchases within certain defined blocks, and thns bring about a stocktaking of interests, both native and European, in these lands. Sir ™ a ™ ferries, before giving up ths portfolio of Native Affairs, expressed himself as sympathetic with this proposal, > 3 ? .. onl y question to be raised was whether such a vast consolidation schema could be carried out with promptitude.
