SUSPECTED FIRE BLIGHT.

Saturday. •' The' suspected 'case of fire blight near Tai Tapu has been investigated by orchard instructors who repo#t that the hawthorn hedge supposed to be, infected died from other causes. There is no sign of fire blight. ACTIVITIES OF COMMITTEE. The Central Fire Slight Committee, at a meeting at which Mr, H, Paltridge presided, decided that Mr. G. D. Shuttleworth should visit Tauranga to gain firsthand information of the ravages of the disease, there, and the effects of the various methods of control experimented with. It was decided to ask the Prime Minister and the Minister for Agriculture, the Hon. W. Nosworthy, to arrange a conference between the Emergency Committee and the Minister and heads of the department, with a view to drafting legislation regarding the fire blight menace. Messrs. H. Paltridge, G. A. Green, and H. S. Izard", secretory, were asked to hold themselves in readiness to proceed to Wellington as soon aa the date of the conference is fixed.
