I * OBJECTION TO AN INCREASE, £ The refusD 1 of the tenant of a houze in Khyber Pass Road, to pay an increased rental ,led to a suit being brought before Mr. J. W. Poynton, S.M., in the Magis-. trate's Court yesterday, by the owner, for possession of the house and for the rental as from October 2 last, amounting to; £27. Plaintiff had bought the house last year, and claimed that by a verbal agreement then reached defendant *?as to pay. 30s a week rent, instead of 17b 6d a week, as before, in consideration of the owner's guarantee of secured tenancy. Defendant denied that there was bucli - an agreement, and submitted- that ths rent asked was too high. He had offered to pay 15s a week, and the sum of £13 103, representing tbe rental on this basis since October 2,», had been paid into Court. The question being one as to what was a fair rental, the magistrate proceeded to estimate a rent in accordance with the requirements of the War Regulations Act. It was eventually agreed, however, that the case be adjourned for a week..
