TO REGAIN THE "ASHES"

YOUNGER MEN NEEDED.

FAULTY ENGLISH TACTICS. United Service. LONDON, Jan. 26. Writing in the Manchester Guardian, Mr. MacLaren, of the Lancashire Club, attributes the failure of the bowling of the English cricket team in Australia to the field tactics. He says the bowling had never any real live possibilities, and was further weakened by the worst exhibition of catching in tests. More attention should be given to the selection of fielders and less paid to bowlers with misleading averages. The Australians were a much finer combination than had been reckoned and, ably handled by Armstrong, they proved again that youth with little experience will always beat the " over forty" brigade.
